I always liked Rembrandt. When I had the opportunity to see one of his paintings for the first time, I was struck by the materiality of his painting, by the theatricality of its light and its drama. The colours that every painter dreams of had solidified in an extraordinary way: the oiliness of oil turned into feather, into leather, into metal…
Based on the colour palette of his paintings, and on his play of light and shadow, Rembrandt’s Helmet is a tribute to that painting and serves as an excuse for digital matter to seek pictorial forms that surround it. Two generative software entities look for each other, in a dialogue of forms that are built and undone based on their own visual and sound processes.
